Fanny say what?!

Hey guys! Ive noticed that fanny packs are becoming popular again. Growing up I remember my grammie always sporting one around her waist. I have been thinking a lot about her lately so I decided to make one of my own.

At first I did not really know what I was doing because I did not follow a pattern and just ball-parked it as I knitted along. I ordered the zipper from Micheals; it only cost like $2. The only downside is it's only 5", so when I make more of these I will definitely get longer zippers. I had a vision and this was the result. Overall I am very happy with how this turned out. I purchased the buckles and straps from Hobby Lobby. The buckles came in a pack of 6 for multiple projects (yay), and the strap came from a bulk so it was about $2 per yard.I got this yarn at a closing sale for a yarn shop in Palm Springs, California! I used my size 6 circular needles to make flawless stitches 😉

Here is the pattern (my 1st pattern!) I created:

This is the size that I envisioned but you can alter the pattern depending on your size preference.

Pattern

  • Using the long tail cast on method, cast-on 56 stitches

  • Since we are NOT knitting in the round, in order to produce a stockinette stitch, if that is what you want, then you will have to alternate between knit and purl stitches for each row

  • The purl side is also known as the wrong side (the stitches will be "rough" across the cast-on edge)

  • The knit side is also known as the right side of your work (the stitches will be "smooth" across the cast-on edge)

  • Continue your knit and purl rows until you have 17 rows of knitting

  • On the 18th row, you have to cast off some stitches in the middle to create a space for your zipper

  • Knit 14 stitches, then begin to cast off stitches(28), continue knitting the remaining 14 stitches of the row

  • On the next row, knit the first 14 knit stitches then cast on 28 stitches and continue knitting the remaining 14 stitches

You have now completed making your zipper space and can continue on starting your decreases

  • On your next row; which for me was the *wrong side, start your decreases (purl 2 stitches together) at the beginning and end of the row

  • Repeat this every other row until you have 10 decreases, and have 20 more rows added to your 18 previous rows.

  • Since you are only decreasing every other row, your decreases should always be on the wrong side of your work

  • After you complete your 10 decreases, knit 3 more rows with decreases on every row

  • Your last decrease row is also the LAST row of your work! You have made it to the cast off, so CAST OFF

  • Congratulations :) If you decide to make this send me pictures so I can repost them on the blog!
